Jussie Smolletts Lawsuit Against City Of Chicago Dropped

Publish date: 2024-05-15

At the beginning of 2019, Jussie Smollett sparked nationwide controversy when, in January, he claimed to be the victim of a racist, homophobic, hate-crime attack.

The Empire actor claimed he was on his way home from a Subway restaurant when two white men wearing MAGA hats assaulted him in the streets. The actor alleged that the suspects not only tied a noose around his neck, but they also threw bleach on him and punched him in the face.

After a thorough investigation by the Chicago Police Department, sources begin speculating on the truthfulness of the allegations. Some people on social media never believed the story right from the beginning, and their suspicions soon became justified.

After doubt was cast on the actor, the detectives announced they were turning their sights on Jussie as the primary culprit. Since then, the actor has been embroiled in several lawsuits with the city of Chicago, one of which was recently dropped.

According to Reuters, a US federal judge threw out the suit from the Empire actor against the city. He claimed to be a victim of malicious prosecution. Virginia Kendall, a US District Judge, stated the actor couldn’t bring forward a malicious claim until the other proceedings had been absolved.

Virginia Kendall must be referring to the revamped felony charges laid out in February. He was charged once again with making false police reports regarding the hate-crime incident. Smollett has pled not guilty.

As it was previously reported, the 37-year-old actor filed a suit against Chicago after the city tried to get back $130,106 in police overtime costs. Investigators and detectives spent hours and hours of their time getting to the bottom of Jussie’s claims.

Reportedly, Jussie wanted compensatory and punitive damages due to the severe effects on his reputation, career, and emotional state. The Chicago Police filed their suit against the actor because they believe they had enough evidence to show that the Empire actor staged a hate crime against himself with the aid of two Nigerian-American brothers.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Jussie actually went to a gay bathhouse with one of the men.
