A man and a woman will face court after allegedly paying thousands of dollars to someone to kidnap a man with whom they had a business dispute.

Jack Chamoun, 48, and Caroline Chamoun, 43, appeared at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday after the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad allegedly discovered their plan to kidnap and extort someone with whom they had ongoing business disagreements.

Police discovered the Chamoun’s had allegedly paid $10,000 on December 17 for the man to be kidnapped.

Following inquiries, Raptor Squad officers carried out dawn raids on a Cabarita home in western Sydney on Tuesday.

They seized clothing, electronic devices and documentation, which will undergo further analysis.

The pair were arrested at the home and taken to Burwood police station, where both were charged with two counts of take or detain person with intent to obtain advantage, and demand with menaces intend to obtain gain or cause loss.

Police will allege in court they “directed a third party to kidnap and harm a man with whom they were in an ongoing dispute”.

The Chamoun’s briefly appeared before Burwood Local Court from custody on Wednesday.

They did not make an application for bail.

The matter is next listed at the same court on February 23.
