DWTS James Van Der Beek Gives Emotional Performance After Revealing His Wife Kimberly Suffered A

During Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars, James Van Der Beek has not only been one of the top contenders for the Mirror Ball Trophy, but he has also gushed week-to-week about how much he loves his wife Kimberly and being a dad to their five children. The couple also announced earlier this season that they were expecting baby number six. However, during the most recent episode, the Dawson’s Creek alum shared the emotional news that he and his wife have suffered a miscarriage.

James and Kimberly are already the parents of Olivia, 9, Joshua, 7, Annabel, 5, Emilia, 3, and Gwendolyn, 1. They were thrilled when they found out that another baby was on the way, and they even brought ABC cameras along when they went to their first doctor’s appointment to hear the baby’s heartbeat.

However, during an emotional episode on Monday night, Van Der Beek revealed that they had just “experienced every expectant parent’s worst nightmare – we lost the baby,” said the 42-year-old actor.

Van Der Beek – whose dancing partner is Emma Slater – admitted that he came close to sitting out the week because losing a child breaks you open, opens up your heart, and deepens your appreciation. He said the experience makes you more human, and he didn’t think he would be dancing this week. But, Kimberly told him from her hospital bed: “I’m not done watching you dance.”

“The little soul that we had expected to welcome in our family took a shortcut to whatever lies beyond,” said Van Der Beek. “You never know why these things happen. That’s what I’ve been telling my kids. All you know is that it brings you closer together.”

After the show aired, Kimberly took to Instagram to let everyone know that she was recovering at home, and she was extra thankful to have help with her kids.

James said that their baby was due in April, and he was wrecked, devastated, and in shock after the loss. Sadly, this isn’t the first time the couple has gone through a miscarriage. The actor said that this is actually their fourth miscarriage, and it usually happens around the 10-week mark.

This time, it happened a lot later, and he said it has never been accompanied by such a scary and horrific threat to Kimberly’s well-being. James says he is grateful that his wife is recovering, and they’ve only just begun unpacking the layers on this one.

James Van Der Beek thanked everyone who has shown up for him and his wife during this difficult time, and he and Kimberly are both grieving and counting their blessings today. He also told his wife that he loves her.
